About

barn viewMy husband and I live in rural North Carolina with our 3 lively kiddos. We recently moved to a 1980’s fixer upper farmhouse in the country and immediately dove in to putting our touch on each room…starting with whatever needed immediate attention (the leaky bathroom). We’re also looking forward to adding some animals to our farm this Spring and planting a large garden to help feed all these youngins! So far, living in the new house has been like a combination of the movies “Funny Farm” and “Money Pit” so there is definitely humor around every corner.

I felt like our farm needed a name, so we decided on “Red Roof Refuge” for the red metal roofs that top each structure on the property and for the private, quiet area that makes it feel so peaceful (except on opening morning of Dove season).

I love to build things, personalize spaces, and hoard antiques and scrap wood. I’m notoriously frugal, so all that I do is budget-friendly with a lot of re-using and re-purposing. I’d love for this blog to be a source of inspiration to others making over their homes on modest budgets and to read comments, advice, and feedback from readers. Thanks for reading!

Meredith - Red Roof Refuge

I'm Meredith...a graphic designer and web developer by day and an obsessive DIY'er by night. My love for building things and transforming spaces started as a young child. My patient family has put up with my constant projects at our first home (a renovated 1920's farmhouse) and a family beach cottage built in the 1950's. Now we are embarking on our next adventure...a 1980's fixer upper farmhouse. We'll also be trying out gardening, canning and raising chickens this spring so we're sure to provide comic relief as we learn!
